The award-winning West Berkshire Brewery has launched Gold Star – a zesty traditional golden pale ale that aims to be the perfect accompaniment for alfresco get-togethers this Summer.
A year in the making, going through a series of rigorous blind tastings and trials, Gold Star has been brewed to transport drinkers to sunnier climes with complex aromas of oranges, grapefruit, apricot and berries followed by a bright citrus finish. The 4.1% beer received input from the whole brewing team with the final recipe for this very English beer style being developed by Belgian lead brewer, Francois VanDamme, resulting in a refreshing golden beer.
West Berkshire Brewery, home to Renegade Lager, Detour Pale Ale and Good Old Boy, has created the new core beer in response to consumer demand with data suggesting golden ales currently represent a third of the cask ale market in the UK*. Golden ales popularity shows no sign of slowing down as consumers increasingly make the switch from amber ales to the golden variety.
Managing Director of West Berkshire Brewery, Tom Lucas, said: “Traditional beer styles are part of our DNA and, whilst we have always been happy that Good Old Boy, Detour and Renegade Lager represent benchmarks for their individual styles, we wanted a traditional pale ale to be proud of.
“There are some iconic beers in this category, which is, to my mind, one of the most drinkable around, and we have spent a year perfecting the recipe to ensure that Gold Star encapsulates the style. We’re thrilled to be launching this delicious and refreshing golden ale this Summer as restrictions are lifted and outdoor celebrations are in full swing.”
West Berkshire Brewery is now offering Gold Star Ale in 500ml bottles (£2.30 RRP), 440ml cans (£2.00 RRP) and nine-gallon casks on wbbrew.com.
