This September The Botanist has partnered with Barnardo’s – the UK’s leading children’s charity- with an outstanding range of creative projects, community programmes and a fantastic new cocktail and dish to raise money for disadvantaged young people in their local communities up and down the country.
The Botanist staff have put their heads together to bring exciting charity events to customers. Ranging from bottomless brunches, bingo, and beauty sessions with Charlotte Tilbury, as well as gin tasting sponsored by Sipsmith, there is no corner they have left untouched to bring in support for the Barnardo’s partnership.
Sharing in the ethos of community, the nationwide pub group The Botanist, are also proud to run their “Grow with us Pledge” alongside this September’s events.
Greenhouses will be built in children’s centres and communities across the country, to enable people to come together in growing and sharing their own produce. In each city which homes a new Botanist opening in 2017, a greenhouse will be installed. The first has been erected in London on 16th September for the Indigo Project in Ilford. The team will also be running a six-week cookery programme with the Barnardo’s Indigo Centre to teach young carers basic cooking skills throughout October.
Customers at The Botanist can also participate in raising money for the charity, without even leaving their stool! A new show stopping cocktail and mouth-watering sharing desert are now available with £1 from each going straight to the charity.
‘The Believer’ Cocktail, is a beautifully crafted gin punch with a dash of apple liquor and peach liquor, infused with ginger, jasmine, lemon and pineapple. The final touch comes courtesy of a kiwi fan, mint sprig and the signature Botanist liquid pipette.
Customers can also indulge in ‘The Carrot Pot Planter Sharer’ desert, created in memory of a young John Somers, who was turned away from a full Barnardo’s house in 1867 and heartbreakingly passed away on the street two days later from malnutrition. This incident led Dr Barnardo to launch the charity’s powerful slogan “No destitute child ever refused entry”. The young lad’s nickname was “carrots” so this sharing desert has been created in honour of him.
The tasty carrot cake is served in a miniature plant pot, topped with edible flowers, mint leaves, glazed carrots and coated with a chocolate crunch soil.
Children’s charity Barnardo’s transforms the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children. Last year Barnardo’s supported more than 272,000 children, young people and their families. This includes children who have suffered abuse and sexual exploitation, those who are leaving the care system and those who are living with a disability.
Kairen Brown from Barnardo’s Corporate Relations Team said: “We’re delighted to be working with The Botanist and really grateful to the team for their hard work in supporting our charity.
“All money raised from these events and products will help us to transform the lives of thousands of children. So on their behalf we would like to say a huge thank you to The Botanist and their customers.”
Katie Longbottom, head of charity for The New World Trading Company comments: “We are proud to partner with Barnardo’s this September and share our values with the long established children’s charity of community and growth. Money raised will go to support vulnerable children and families within the location communities The Botanist pubs call home.”
