The British Poultry Council is again on the hunt for Britain’s best poultry products with chicken, turkey and duck producers and retailers battling it out for the top spot.
From Harissa Chicken Escalopes, Bistro Duck Confit to Caramelised Onion Turkey Sausages and Turkey Parcel with Pork, Sage and Onion Stuffing, it’s all to play for as the shortlist of contenders is announced.
The winners will be revealed at the British Poultry Awards, scheduled to take place this September. Richard Griffiths, Chief Executive, British Poultry Council says, “Our awards event has again attracted an impressive number of high quality entries from across the industry. With over 60 top quality products on the shortlist choosing the best of the best will be a tough call.”
An independent panel of judges from the food industry will get together in July to taste their way through a wide range of poultry products and come up with the top three from each of eight product-based categories. Products will be assessed against set criteria such as taste, appearance, quality, packaging and best use of the protein for the target market.
The final categories are the coveted British Poultry Retailer of the Year, Foodservice Operator of The Year and three new supply chain categories. These consist of Best Innovation, Standout Performance and Supply Chain Champion.
The Poultry Retailer of the Year category winner will be awarded to the company considered to stock the best and broadest range of poultry products. The winner has the opportunity to carry the endorsement on its entire range of everyday fresh poultry cuts for a period of 12 months, while all winners will benefit from a dedicated logo to use on their advertising and POS campaigns.
The judging panel comprises Sheila Eggleston – Food & Drink Editor, Cost Sector Catering, Lee Maycock – chef consultant, Nichola Palmer, Woman magazine and Phil Clarke, Farmers Weekly.
“These Awards provide a unique platform for small and large poultry producers to gain recognition for all their hard work. This is our biggest and best event in the poultry industry calendar with over 200 representatives and VIPs from the industry attending on the night,” added Richard Griffiths.
The British Poultry Awards take place at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel on Thursday, 20th September 2018.
