Clipper Teas picks up exporting honour at South West awards

Clipper Teas, the Fairtrade tea brand owned by Wessanen UK, has been named ‘Exporter of the Year’ at the prestigious 2015 Insider Made in the South West Awards.

From its tea factory in Beaminster, Dorset, Clipper Teas has opened up markets in a wide range of countries including South Korea, Chile, Estonia, Latvia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UAE, India, Kazakhstan, Georgia and the Philippines. The established tea brand is now setting its sights on the US by growing its North American presence significantly.

Clipper Teas fought off stiff competition to win the award, which was presented at a black tie ceremony at Bristol’s Thistle Grand Hotel on Thursday 5 November. The prestigious annual event celebrates excellence in manufacturing from across the South West, and gives local companies the opportunity to celebrate their ongoing commitment to world-class quality and excellence in manufacturing.

Michael Evans is Export Director for Wessanen UK, owners of Clipper Teas. He comments“There are huge opportunities for UK brands abroad, and we are proud to be recognised for our exporting growth. Clipper is now sold in over 50 countries around the world, and international trade has become a key part of our growth strategy. Export business accounted for a significant proportion of our total sales last year, and we are now looking to scale this up even further as we move into North America.”

Founded in Dorset in 1984, Clipper manufactures and exports an extensive variety of organic and Fairtrade teas and coffees – from everyday blends to green tea and infusions. All of Clipper’s products are made with pure ingredients from the highest quality sources, with nothing artificial added.

Mark Bagwell, Operations Director at Wessanen UK, also comments: “In recent years, we’ve noticed a growing appetite for organic food and drinks across Europe and worldwide. Provenance of food has also become far more important to consumers. Everything we produce for Clipper is blended in Dorset, and we trade heavily on that fact. Growing demand, coupled with our very high ethics and quality standards, has enabled us to break into a large number of new markets. Such rapid growth has only been achievable because of investment into a highly skilled South West team.”

Clipper Teas is one of a number of healthy brands owned by natural and organic food company Wessanen UK. Other brands owned by the company include Kallo, Whole Earth and Almond Breeze.
