There are just days to go until the 2017 British Pie Awards, which are held this Wednesday (8 March), and the final numbers have been announced, revealing that a record number of British pie producers have entered. A total of 154 pie perfectionists from across the UK have entered the world-famous Awards, which are to be held in the Leicestershire town of Melton Mowbray. A total of 897 pies have been entered into the 21 classes.
The Awards coincide with British Pie Week (6-13 March 2017) and celebrate the UK’s love of pies – one of the icons of British cuisine. Hot or cold, sweet or savoury, the British eat millions of them every year.
