Sprigster, a premium non-alcoholic botanical liquor designed by Kitchen Garden Co., has been awarded a star in the Great Taste 2021 awards, the largest and most trusted food and drink awards in the world, which judges more than 10,000 global products.
Having launched earlier this year, the Great Taste award is an esteemed accolade that its founders are rightly proud of, as Simon Hurley, co-owner of Sprigster Drinks, outlines: “We are delighted to have been awarded a Great Taste Awards ‘Gold Star’ for Sprigster in our first full year of trading. To be judged in the largest food and drinks awards in the world, along with another 10,000 products, by industry experts, and to be awarded a coveted Gold Star is an amazing accolade. We are immensely proud of Sprigster, and we think the many generations of gardeners who’ve worked here at Pythouse Kitchen garden would be too. Look out for the next product coming soon.”
The judges applauded Sprigster’s unique taste which they said was: “quite different from most alcohol-free aperitifs”. Highlighting the unique ingredients the judges enjoyed the aroma of apple cider vinegar, herb and spice and the ginger that comes through on the palate and said “the almost savoury lack of sweetness is pleasing; in dilution with tonic water this would make a fine food accompaniment as well as aperitif. Markedly clean on the finish.”
Sprigster is fondly described as a botanical mash by its creators at Kitchen Garden Co, a famous kitchen restaurant that was recently described by renowned restaurant critic Giles Coren as: “probably the best garden restaurant you will ever find”.
Made of blended fennel seeds, rhubarb, ginger and English Discovery apples that are gently infused for three weeks, this special drink was created earlier this year. Pythouse, a family business, first began producing fruit and vegetables in the 1920s and selling to local shops, schools and pubs. The delightful eccentricity began early with a wonderfully untidy garden and a potting shed where visitors could select and weigh their own vegetables to take home.
In addition to the Great Taste 2021 award win, Sprigster is a grand finalist in the Great British Food Awards for the ‘Non-alcoholic spirits, beers and wine’ category, which will be announced in October 2021.
The award-winning Sprigster is available to buy from bottle shops across the country and can be enjoyed in restaurants such as Hakkassan, Kitty Fishers and The Newt in Somerset. It’s also available to buy online at https://www.sprigsterdrinks.com/ for £26 per 70cl bottle and a Gift Box containing a 20cl Sprigster bottle with two cans of Fever Tree tonic.
