Pioneering London-based breakfast brand Spoon, first brought to the public’s attention in 2014 when it successfully secured £50,000 on Dragons’ Den from both Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones, has launched its campaign on equity crowdfunding platform, Seedrs to help catapult it into the next phase of growth.
Brother and sister-in-law founders, Jonny Shimmin and Annie Morris, have taken the brand to great heights, currently experiencing 100 per cent like-for-like sales growth with a range of five products on the shelves in over 250 stores in the UK. Its latest product, Cherry Bomb (made with wholegrain British oats, Canadian maple syrup and cherries), launched in Waitrose stores nationwide on the 28th April, perfectly coinciding with its crowdfunding campaign.
A week before the public launch, the Spoon Seedrs campaign has already secured over 30 per cent of its desired investment through investment angels, family, friends and the backing of John Stapleton, co-founder of New Covent Garden Soup Co and Little Dish, who has been a business advisor to Spoon for the last year.
Through Seedrs, Spoon is now looking to take its business to the next level hoping to raise over £250,000, which will go towards efforts to broaden its distribution and marketing both in the UK and worldwide with future hopes to expand its range.
Jonny Shimmin, one of the co-founders, commented: “The Spoon team are really hungry to grab hold of the opportunities that lie ahead – everything we do is with the knowledge that we can help improve the quality of food eaten during breakfast time routines. I’m confident that with industry experts including John Stapleton, and the support of our advocates from the crowd, we can continue to succeed in our mission to make breakfast better together.”
